Guruji's Legacy

His body of work consists of: Allaripu in unusual tala cycles such as 9 beats, 11beats, 13 beats etc. Jatisvarams with intricate rhythmic dance sequences. Tillanas with complicated 'mai-adavus' followed by 'panch jati korvais'. Over a 100 jatis- both shollus & rhythmic patterns. Apart from creating many 'Trikala jatis', he also experimented with the 'mridanga mohra' & the 'konnakol' to create some fascinating jatis.

the workshop module

The work-shop is spread over 3 modules of 7 - 9 days each & comprises of :

  • Detailed & comprehensive understanding of rhythm & the carnatic tala-system.
  • Methodology for tala training.
  • Tala analysis and rhythmic choreography.
  • Systematic training in nattuvangam Complete nritta margam comprising of 5 items.

(Kautuvam, Alarippu, Jatiswaram, Varnam and Tillana)

  • Each module will consist of 2 sessions of approximately 3 hrs. of training per day.
  • Dance Practical Training         - 1 ½ hrs.
  • Tala & Nattuvangam Training  - 1 ½ hrs.
